Oddly enough this is an anniversary for me too... but it's not the day the angel was discovered... it's the day the angel fell and the darkness rose...

i will be refraining from almost all contact today... its my choice... deal with it as u please... i don't care what you think... no one deserves this more in my eyes...

Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!" We're going to live on! We're going to survive!" Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

Group Leader: Ok everyone just take a seat, get some water, and rest for a little bit before we continue on up the road.

I sit leaning on a nearby tree. One of the brunettes from the group sits by me. i hadn't really talked to her much, but it was only the day after we had gotten to Greece. I sat staring up at the Parthenon way at the edge of the cliff.

Me: It's amazing isn't it?

Her: What is?

Me: It must have taken a lot of architectural genius and mathematical intelligence to create a building so exact and sturdy that it withstands weather, time, and even battles, ancient and modern.

Her: Not only that, but the Acropolis is also where democracy was formed, not to mention much of Greece's art and philosophy was shared and displayed.

We talk, sometimes intelligent, sometimes making jokes. We talk about the beauty of the past and the wisdom it grants to people if they only stop and learn from it. Then the group stands and continues on up the road. She walks with me as we continue talking. It no longer matters about what, just as long as we talk. I make her laugh, sometimes only to see her smile. I hear the passion in her words and, when we rest in the shade, the fire in her eyes.

Her: I'm sorry... I feel kinda bad but i don't think i ever heard your name.

I smile.

Me.: It's Josh. And don't worry about it too much. I actually forgot yours too.

She laughs.

Her: I'm Erika. Pleased to meet you.

She extends her hand. I reach out and kiss her hand.

Me: And I, you. Erika, huh? Don't worry, I don't think I'll ever forget your name again.

We walk, her arm around my waist, mine around her shoulder. And when we finally reach the top, and we both see the ancient ruins, standing firm and true, she looks up at me, filled with excitement and adventure, and smiles.

And I never forgot her name, and I never will...
